ONDREJ BLAHO

STREET & DOCUMENTARY & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

I’ve been self-learning photography since 2015 and have been fascinated by observing people in different, often quite ordinary situations. I have two expectations from my shoots – they should capture a small and seemingly insignificant moment, and at the same time give the viewer enough space to complete a significant part of the story purely on their own. The world as I see it, but as you see it with your own eyes.

I like documentary and street photography, but also abstraction and surrealism, portraits of interesting women and men. I try to combine all these in my work. I spend long hours on Steve McCurry’s iconic images full of rich colours, I admire the photographs of Antonín Kratochvil, the ironic humour of Elliot Erwitt and the sense of the moment as captured and described by Henri Cartier-Bresson.

My work to date breaks down into long-term projects:

24hrs – black and white street photography with an increasing emphasis on the artistic component
Corners – colour photographs of the corners of different cities and places during my travels
People of – street portraits in natural light
Storytelling – photographic documents or essays, again with an emphasis on the visual component
Abstract high – highly stylized portraits with an emphasis on abstraction and layering of images

In 2023 I published the publications „18“ and „24hrs“ and I consider my most important achievement so far to be the second place in the „International Photography Awards“ in 2024. My photographs have been exhibited in various places in the Czech Republic, but also in the USA, Hungary, Norway, Switzerland, Italy and other countries…
